Arsenal FC of England bounced back
from a humiliating last minute 2 -1 defeat to high-flying Watford FC last
weekend to pile more heat on the struggling Maurice Koeman tutored Everton. Five
beautiful goals from a high-spirited Arsenal were enough to make sure that
Everton slid deeper into the drop zone on goals difference.
A very entertaining match it was,
full of talking points and breathtaking moments of brilliance. Let’s take a
look at some of the observations we saw in the very entertaining game on
Sunday.
Ozil and Sanchez are both important players to Arsenal
The brilliant pair had their names
in the score and assist sheets respectively on Sunday. A sublime cross from the
edge of the box by Alexis Sanchez picked out Mesut Ozil who made a perfectly
timed run for a sublime header to beat Everton Goalkeeper, Pickford, and give
Arsenal a deserved 3 – 1 lead. The latter was going to supply a sublime assist
for in-form striker Alexander Lacazette to score his fifth EPL goal after he
(Ozil) also received a through ball from Alexis Sanchez through the midfield.

With the departure of the pair
looming, Wenger and Arsenal have got a real serious thing to think about going
forward.
Koeman’s indecision cost them the game
Three previous fouls from Everton’s
midfielder, Gana, made it an easy decision decision for the centre referee to
brandish his yellow card on the midfielder in the first half of the game. A
good decision from the Toffees manager would have been to substitute him in the
game given that his impact on the game waned and the Gunnars took charge of the
midfield. His dirty tackle on the Swiss international, Xhaka, in the second
half of the game was uncalled for considering he was already on a yellow.
The
second yellow card and the red that followed was enough to leave the Toffees
exposed with a man down and grant Arsenal a field day in the match.
Koeman to face the axe soon
The Toffees have had a string of
poor runs both in the Premier league and in the EUFA Europa league. Last week’s
outing in the Europa league saw them losing dramatically to Lyon FC of France
in their backyard and the loss against Arsenal on Sunday saw them drop into the
relegation zone.
They face Chelsea next in the EFL
cup. Considering the level of the opposition, this is not the type of match
Koeman needs to turn their fortunes around.
A defeat against Chelsea in the Carabao cup might just be the last straw
that breaks the camel’s back for Ronald Koeman.
Arsenal will always be Arsenal
With the Gunnars already 4 – 1 up,
the normal ‘Arsenal thing’ – complacency and lack of seriousness set in. What
on earth prompted Nacho Monreal to give that back pass to Petr Cech knowing
full well that Niasse was lurking around the corner and that Cech will not have
enough time to deal properly with that ball.
He had options to either put the
ball away over the line for a throw in or promptly clear it away anyways but he
chose to pass it to Cech who could not clear the ball properly and allowed
Niasse to slot the ball into Arsenal’s net for their second goal.
Wenger have to get his boys to show
more seriousness and dedication if they stand the chance of making it to the
top four or winning the league.
